The scheme supported local aspiring entrepreneurs to turn their tech-driven ideas into a fully-fledged business
The ‘Launch It’ Creative Tech Pre-Accelerator Programme celebrated the successful completion of its second cohort on Thursday 28 November at South Essex College. Six aspiring entrepreneurs showcased their innovative business ideas in a pitch event to a panel of startup experts and mentors, marking a significant milestone in their entrepreneurial journey.
The event was officially opened by Councillor Jessica Power, Basildon Council’s Cabinet Member for Jobs, Skills and Local Economy, who commended the participants for their hard work and dedication throughout the programme. The programme, which ran over eight weeks, provided participants with the tools, mentorship, and knowledge required to turn their creative ideas into scalable tech businesses. Participants gained valuable insights into business strategy, marketing, pitching, and product development, empowering them to move forward with confidence.
The highlight of the event was the pitch session, where each participant presented their tech-driven business ideas to a panel of industry experts. The pitches covered a diverse range of industries, including wellbeing, crafts, events app, and health tech. The panel voted Show Up App, Pocket Power, and Purl’s Wool Shed as the top three businesses for their growth potential and scalability.
“It’s been an incredible journey to witness the transformation of these entrepreneurs from the first day of the programme to today,” said Imelda Fossu, the Delivery Partner. “They’ve worked hard, taken risks, and learned how to refine their ideas in preparation for the next stage of their business development.”
The event also offered a short masterclass on marketing, and networking opportunities for participants and attendees, creating a vibrant atmosphere where entrepreneurs, industry professionals, and local stakeholders could connect and share knowledge.
The ‘Launch It’ Creative Tech Pre-Accelerator Programme, delivered in partnership with South Essex College and Fossu Ltd, is part of Basildon Council’s ongoing commitment to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship with the funding from UKSPF. The programme is designed to help early-stage startups bridge the gap between their initial idea and a fully launched business.
