Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) provide dedicated funding to support sustained economic growth across their respective towns
The Billericay and Wickford Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) are officially set to launch on January 1, 2025, following the successful completion of the 28-day challenge period. Both districts, which will focus on enhancing local economies, improving business environments, and fostering community engagement, are poised to bring positive changes to these town centres.
After extensive consultation with local businesses and stakeholders, and following the legal challenge period which concluded successfully with no objections, both BIDs are now fully authorised to begin their operations. The BIDs will represent local businesses in Billericay and Wickford, with a focus on promoting growth, enhancing services, and improving the overall business experience within the towns.
Funded through a BID levy, Billericay BID has an estimated budget of £688,273 for the next five years; and Wickford BID expects an approximate budget of £377,658 for the next five years.
The BIDs set out to achieve a range of positive outcomes for their respective towns, with the benefits felt throughout the business community:
Richard Willis, Chair of the Billericay BID Steering Group, said:
" The Billericay BID is a major milestone for our town and we are ready to work with all rate-paying organisations to deliver tangible improvements. The BID will be a driving force for opportunity and we are always looking for input from all levy payers."
Paul Edward, Chair of the Wickford BID Steering Group, commented:
"We're thrilled that Wickford's BID is now officially confirmed, and we can't wait to start implementing the exciting projects and initiatives we've been planning. This BID is a great opportunity for local businesses to come together and make a real impact on the town's future. We are committed to creating a vibrant and prosperous environment that will benefit both businesses and the wider community."
Cllr Jessica Power, Cabinet Member for Jobs, Skills and Local Economy said: "The official confirmation of the Billericay and Wickford BIDs is fantastic news for both towns. This marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for our local economies. With the support of local businesses, the BIDs will bring significant improvements to the town centres, from enhanced services to vibrant events and marketing initiatives. These BIDs are a testament to the power of collaboration and a great example of how businesses, residents, and local government can work together to create thriving, prosperous communities. I look forward to seeing the positive impact they will have on our economy and quality of life."
